Another week, another pissed off John Pollock. And, once again, he has every right to be.
Much like most 18-to 34-year-old males (including myself), John wasn’t home to catch the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony on Saturday night. He relied on his trusty PVR to tape the show but, just like I did, he missed out on the telecast due to the UNC-Louisville NCAA tournament game running a little long. That coupled with The Score’s (the network that televises all WWE programming in Canada) head-scratching decision to air a repeat episode of Smackdown following the game AND THEN the HOF Ceremony made for a lot of angry Canadian wrestling fans come Sunday morning. Once again, I was reminded why I love American cable that much more than Canadian (I am currently in Montreal so I couldn’t watch it on the USA Network).
Anyhow, take a listen as John recounts his pain-staking attempt to watch quality wrestling programming.
Want to hear a fired up John Pollock? Just ask him about Ric Flair’s retirement.
You can’t really blame The Prodigy since it’s safe to say that regardless of whether Flair and HBK tear down the Citrus Bowl this Sunday this angle has been a major disappointment for all residents of Flair Country. That is considering this will in fact be Flair’s final match. I am actually surprised as to how many people believe this will be it for The Nature Boy. I fully expect to see Flair back in some ring within 12-14 months but I guess that is a different story for a different day.
If you’ve been out of the loop and didn’t even know that Flair was on the verge of retirement I will let John explain why what could have been one of the most memorable storylines in WWF/E history turned out to be, well, simply ordinary.
One of the first thoughts that popped into my mind upon hearing the news that CBS would soon be televising Elite XC events was: Which play-by-play announcer will call the fights?
Would it remain Mauro Ranallo or would the network look to bring in new talent? This might be the chance Gus Johnson has been waiting for.
Well, it’s been a couple of weeks since the announcement and still no word on who will get the mic. So, The Fight Network’s John Pollock decided to hold an open casting call for any broadcaster in the business hoping to throw his (or her) name in the hat.
Not surprisingly, the call was a success as the likes of Larry Merchant, Don West and Michael Buffer showed up. A solid crew, indeed.
I’m sure most of the residents of Jarry Park have attended at least one UFC event at some point in their lives.
Not so for our weekly ranter, John Pollock. The producer of Fight Network Radio and Live Audio Wrestling popped his UFC cherry this weekend when he made a last-minute decision to drive down to Columbus, OH, to watch UFC 82.
You may be thinking: “Ugh, not another blow-by-blow diary of a UFC weekend!”
Au contraire, mes amis. Take a listen as Pollock recounts his memorable drive down to the Buckeye State in the midst of a snow storm and, most importantly, breaks down his top 5 observations from attending his first MMA event.
If you’ve ever been to a show I think you’ll agree that Pollock’s POV is dead on.
Pollock’s POV – 03/03/08
You can hear more from John Pollock (who is thankfully not shown above) weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on Fight Network Radio on Sirius channel 186 or via Hardcoresportsradio.com not to mention every Sunday evening at 11 p.m. ET on Live Audio Wrestling.
Welcome to another new feature at Jarry Park. Every Monday, the producer of Live Audio Wrestling and Fight Network Radio, John Pollock, will stop by to deliver his weekly rant on the world of combat sports. It’s a little something we like to call “Pollock’s POV.”
This week, the Prodigy tackles the always head-scratching world of TNA wrestling. As Total Nonstop Action approaches its six year anniversary, the biggest question floating around the wrestling world is what needs to be done to take this promotion to the next level. Striking a deal with Spike TV? Perhaps. Moving to Thursday nights? Maybe. Two hours in prime time? Eh.
So, Pollock has devised a perfect plan that will surely help rise TNA to the top. I can’t think of one person who would not be in favor of this.
John, the floor is yours…
Pollock’s POV – 02/25/08
You can hear more from Pollock (who is not the man featured above – that would be TNA analyst Don West) weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on Fight Network Radio on Sirius channel 186 or via Hardcoresportsradio.com not to mention every Sunday evening at 11 p.m. ET on Live Audio Wrestling.
We’re always featuring interviews with different personalities from the fight world so it’s nice to switch things up and actually voice our opinion from time-to-time. That was the case during my appearance on yesterday’s edition of Fight Network Radio.
Have I mentioned how much I love that show and how honored I am that they keep inviting me back? Well, I do and I am.
Anyhow, yesterday we spoke a lot about this weekend’s Elite XC offering. More specifically, we talked about why some people continue to hate on the phenomenon that is Kimbo Slice, the growth of Elite XC as a promotion and why some fans continue to boo great MMA matches.
In their always entertaining “Final Countdown” segment we also talked a little Pavlik-Taylor and, of course, Money May’s arrival in World Wrestling Entertainment. Unfortunately, that audio isn’t available but as soon as it is I will throw it up here (UPDATE: It’s up and it can be found down below).
I always love chatting with those guys because it makes me feel like the not-so-cool kid getting to hang out with the cool kids for 15 minutes or so. So, you know, thanks for making me feel “cool.”

I can’t stress this enough: If you are a fan of all things combat sports and are not listening to Mauro Ranallo and John Pollock on a daily basis you are really doing yourself a disservice. The show airs live on Sirius channel 186 or online at hardcoresportradio.com. You can also download all their episodes here.
As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I appeared on Fight Network Radio to talk a little wrasslin’. This time around host John Pollock and I moslty spoke about the mysteries surrounding TNA iMPACT! (including Shark Boy’s “new” gimmick) as well as tonight’s Royal Rumble.
I know the general consensus on the Internet is to bash TNA’s creative so I try to be as positive as I can but, damn, it’s so hard sometimes with this bunch.
I also offered up a pretty good booking idea for the Randy Orton-Jeff Hardy WWE title match. Take a listen – I think you guys might like it.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be appearing on the great Fight Network Radio later today. We’ll mainly be discussing last night’s episode of TNA Impact and this Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble.
I am sure most of the Jarry Park faithful have already heard the program but, if not, tune into Sirius Channel 186 at 3 p.m. EST or log onto hardcoresportsradio.com to listen via the Internet. It’s everything The Park aspires to be someday.
If you want to get really pumped up for the show check out some of my past appearances on FNR here and here.
What do you mean you missed my two appearances on Fight Network Radio yesterday? Oh, you were working. My bad.
No hard feelings, though. Below you can find the audio of it. At the beginning of the show, host Mauro Ranallo, Loretta Hunt and I discussed HDNet Fights: Reckless Abandon (seriously now, I need to start calling myself Mr. HDNet Fights because I am covering these guys up the wazoo).
Later in the show, John Pollock, Hunt, Ranallo and myself talked about our respective votes for MMA upset of the year as well as last night’s weak edition of Monday Night Raw. I even stumped Loretta with a tough pro wrestling question! (Sort of.)
What an honor it was to be on a panel with three of the brightest minds in the combat sports world and I sincerely thank John for inviting me back on the show.
Take a listen below.
Fight Network Radio Appearance #1 – 12/18/07 (HDNet Fights discussion)
Fight Network Radio Appearance #2 – 12/18/07 (Monday Night Raw discussion)
I interrupt your day to let you know that I will be a guest during the “Insider” segment on Fight Network Radio tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.
While my appearance will come at 3:15 p.m. EST, The show airs on Sirius channel 186 or via the Hardcore Sports Radio site from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. EST. I suggest listening to the whole show. It’s that damn good.
This will actually be my second cameo on the program (thank, guys!). To listen to my first click below. (Warning: the contents discussed in the interview are a little out-of-date.)
