Vas-y GSP!

We have spies scouring gyms and dojos across North America to bring you the latest in combat sports and here’s proof: Georges St. Pierre, the man who will be facing Matt Hughes at UFC 79 (haven’t you heard?) sparring with the current reigning and defending WBA Light Middleweight Champion Joachim Alcine (who will be defending his crown next Friday against Alfonso Mosquera). Be afraid, Matt. Be very afraid.

As a proud Montrealer this photo makes me all warm inside.

The Haitian Sensation

It’s been a while since I called the great city of Montreal my home but that doesn’t mean I still don’t hold a soft spot in my heart for all things Quebec (just look at the name of this blog for further proof).

So, needless to say, when I was offered a chance to sit down with the new WBA Light Middleweight champion and pride of Montreal (by way of Haiti), Joachim Alcine (29-0), I jumped at the opportunity.

The soft-spoken Alcine is one of many great boxers to come out of Montreal as of late. Currently, he is sharing the spotlight with IBF Super Middleweight champion, Lucien Bute, but come December 7th the eyes of the boxing world will be focused squarely on the undefeated Alcine.

Alcine will be defending his newly-won WBA title against Alfonso Mosquera (19-5-0) at the Bell Centre in Montreal. A win over Mosquera would surely place Alcine in line for a shot at the current WBC Light Middleweight champion, Vernon Forrest (Forrest will first have to get by Michelle Pircillio on 12/1).

Take a listen as Alcine discusses his upcoming fight against Mosquera, the distractions of becoming a champion and who he would like to fight next.
